Last week we announced our pending merger with Healthwise, an organization we have long admired for its reach and dedication to supporting patient engagement in health care. The response we have received has been wonderfully positive with many colleagues and friends expressing their excitement and support. We truly believe this is a merger patients will celebrate.
Together, we will be a force for good, combining our strengths in clinical evidence, research and evaluation, and shared decision making advocacy with Healthwise’s reach and expertise in patient engagement strategies. We foresee this being a perfect match that will exponentially help more people make better health decisions. To quote Don Kemper, founder and CEO of Healthwise, “together we can inform and amplify the patient’s voice for the greater benefit of a more affordable health care system.”
The Foundation will retain its name and identity, but will focus primarily on research and policy. I will remain President of the Foundation and also add the title of chief science officer of Healthwise. A single board of directors, chaired by Peggy O’Kane, long-time CEO of the National Committee for Quality Assurance, will govern the combined organization. We are extremely excited about the breadth and depth of expertise and passion of our 13 incoming board members.
While the merger will not become official until early April, we will be collaborating with Healthwise on the upcoming second annual Shared Decision Making Month. We believe shared decision making has a bright future and the merger of our two organizations plays a critical role in that future. Please join us in celebrating Shared Decision Making Month this March by participating in one of our many events.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support.
